Makati City- the opening of the Philippine American Football League (PAFL) took place in Circuit Makati Blue Pitch last Sunday, September 10 to kick off their 2017 season with spectacular performances and thrilling matches from different participating teams in action. The opening season kicked off with two matches: Cavemen vs Warriors and the Wolves vs Juggernauts respectively. The game is intense and aggressive while playing under the extreme heat of Manila as it progress throughout the day.
Cavemen won in the first game 24-0 against the Warriors in an aggressive match to start the season. The Wolves won against the Juggernauts by 81-0, proving their presence as a long running veteran players of the sport. However, things took a turn as other participating teams present in the opening day complained about the Wolves suiting up 46 players for their match exceeding the agreed roster cap to the PAFL Board.
PAFL rules indicated that there should only be 40 suited players per game as which agreed by all participating teams prior to the season starts. The PAFL Board made a quick deciding vote on the sanction to the Wolves by “deducting the number of players they dressed over the legal limit” reducing their roster cap to 34 for the next two matches.
According to Demosthenes Garcera Juanatas, Jr., Commissioner and President of PAFL, “We as a League made a minor mistake on our part, of not stating the consequences of such violations, thus the PAFL Board had to make a quick deciding vote on the sanctions given to the Wolves, which the [team] have stated will gladly comply to”. He added that: “I try my best to stay out of all major decisions unless there is a tie breaker in the votes, these rules were voted on by each team and we expected every team to uphold and follow through with the rules and regulations”.
