30 SONGS TURNING 10 YEARS THIS 2018

Check out the playlist I made making you feel a lot older in the link in the photo

Music has been always transforming and is always out for us to listen to and enjoy. Since it’s already 2018 and everything definitely has changed from what we are 10 years ago. I bet as you reminisce, there’s always this phase where you either regret or love. That’s right. Your emo phase. Don’t worry we are not going to talk and dwell much on it.

2008 has been a year of various hypes in, movies, TV, music, fashion and a lot more. It became the year where POP CULTURE started to transform to what it is today. Well… that’s why it’s POP CULTURE, basically!

We’re going to talk about my TOP 30 songs (‘cause why not?!) of 2008 (‘cause you know it’s a decade ago already since it came out) and I am going to bring you back to memory lane. Let’s bring back all the feels to your youngster days. Like… as in NENE and TOTOY days!!!

Akon – Right Now (Na Na Na)

Seriously?! Who would’ve forget about this song?! Whenever you ride about the jeepney, either you can hear the original version of Akon or the Filipino version (which is annoying actually!) Well… you gotta admit, you loved Akon back in 2008 with this song.

Ne-Yo – Closer

Ok, we’ve got to clear this out. Ne-Yo haven’t produces and recorded any song in years and TBH, I missed those kinds of R&Bs not the shady rap/R&Bs we have today. Just saying!!!

Use Somebody – Kings of Leon

How can we forget this song?! When the intro kicks in, you def know this song AF and would sing your heart out like you’re about to pass out. How’d I know? Well… I used to be one of those. Actually, I am still one of those people. LOL. Seriously tho?! How can you not with that anthemic vibe the song gives?!

The Ting Tings – That’s not my name

Tell me you don’t know this song ‘cause I believe everyone knows this song like deep down their hearts! She was never either “Bell, Stacey, her (who names someone into a pronoun?!), Jane, quiet girl, Mary, Jo and Lisa”. Seriously, anyone know her name?! She didn’t introduce herself. All she did was saying she was never of those names. Oh fuck boys, what have you done?!

Secondhand Serenade – Fall for you

Oh yes!!! We’re entering everyone’s favorite: emo phase. We’re not dwelling much tho. I just wanna talk about this song. Imagine the days of your eyeliners, blades and black outfits. Yes! Those were the days. Haha. Don’t deny tho. You have tried looking out the window and pretend you’re in a music video whenever this song comes in.

Lady Gaga – Poker Face

How could we forget this?! It’s one of Gaga’s major hits and this song got us singing and dancing around of it’s catchiness. We all know how that turned out right? And I am talking about those dance steps. Haha.

Flo Rida – In The Ayer

“Oh hot damn, this is my jam! Keep me partying ‘til the AM.” Seriously!!! If you don’t get the “ayer”, you’re still too young, son!

Ray J – Sexy Can I

I believe those hip-hop dudes at school tried using this song to pick up their chicks ‘cause this song is what it’s about-being fly and dope at the same time.

David Cook – The Time of My Life

Out of all American Idol’s one hit wonders, David Cook must’ve been one of the most memorable. Well… I know your girl friends would’ve debated over and over who should be the winner: COOK or ARCHULETA. We’ll know how it all went and we have to face the reality that this song is the last one we’ll hear from Cook.

Beyonce – If I were A Boy

How can we visit 2008 if we don’t bring in the Queen B herself?! I know. I Know. A lot of you must be mad right now. But I didn’t forget, okay?! Of course, the girls all feel empowered from this song?! Well… why don’t they? I’m all about equality and it’s intriguing for our young minds to see shed a light on “cheating in relationships” at this time.

TI – Whatever You Like

So… it’s catchy. But I bet you all are neglecting the fact that the song is about Sex and hooking up, right?! I bet those fuck boys must’ve been reminded of the OGs on multi-dating.

Jonas Brothers – Burning Up

Oh yes, every teenage girl’s dream crush. Launched from Disney Channel these charming brothers were started reigning your hearts because of their cute faces and the status of being in a rock band. Haha. Yes, Nick Jonas was still a baby at that time and Joe is still not engaged and Kevin is being Kevin. I know y’all are mostly interested in Nick and Joe. Let’s be real!

Miley Cyrus – 7 Things

We can’t mention some band from Disney without mentioning Miley Cyrus. Yes! This was the time people are starting to write about modern pop love songs and everyone has been raving on it. I mean, listing down 7 things you hate about you ex? It’s brilliant!

Lil Wayne – A Milli

Oh this song. Lil Wayne must’ve got some great fortune I this song for becoming a stable to those dance crews out there bringing out their swag and awesome dance moves. I remember hearing this song to almost every amateur dance competition. Not hating tho. Just saying!

Beyonce – Single Ladies

Who could forget about this song?! Up until this day, we still hear and dance around the choreography to it’s fullest the best way I can. This song became one of the best hits of THE QUEEN B and it never gets old for most of us.

Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Those rocker dudes we see around know this song very clearly! How could they not? I mean, Kings of Leon has a very anthemic feel to almost all of their songs and that made them such a hit.

Jesse McCartney – Leavin’

From one Disney star to another. Sadly, I can’t say much. We all know him as this adorable cute teenager who was once linked to Hilary Duff in Lizzie McGuire and suddenly had this single Beautiful Soul and after this song, what happened next? WE can’t deny the fact how drastically matured he came out in this video. Girls be like: “When did Jesse McCartney became Cute to Hott?! Like… 0-100 real quick!”

Taylor Swift – Love Story

Ok… All those Swifties must’ve been getting anxious why am I not mentioning their “KWEEN”. Although, this country girl shot to fame from Our Song and Tear Drops in my Guitar, it was because of this Shakespearean themed music video and song got everyone talking about her. I mean, we can’t deny her brilliance in songwriting and her beautiful country voice. We do love some Romeo and Juliet every now and then, right?

Jason Mraz – I’m yours

Yes!!! The acoustics Gods has sent us this talented man. He is gracing Broadway for Waitress with his talent as of the moment but this song became a staple of those acoustic vibes that would either want you to go on a road trip or sit by the campfire/bonfire either in the beach or in the woods and sing along because that’s how contented you are with life.

Flo Rida (ft. T Pain) – Low

"Apple bottom jeans... boots with a fur..." We can’t mention Flo Rida without this song. How can y’all forget this song?! I mean, this is a phenomenon! Y’all trying to get your ass low in the dance floor before twerking even became the trend. Like… this is your OG of twerking.

Mariah Carey – Touch My Body

We all know how it all went. Mimi has come to grace you with her whistle notes and new R&B waves. The music video is a little disturbing tho. Don’t you think?!

Ne-Yo – Miss Independent

I can’t mention Ne-Yo and the 2008 without mentioning this song! Like… come on! This is a staple of a song. Especially for those hopeless romantic R&B boys we got there lurking in the hallways of our school.

The Pussycat Dolls – When I Grow Up

This is probably one of their last songs ever and probably on of the last moments Nicole Scherzinger had in the group. Let’s be honest tho… PCD became like Nicole Scherzinger and her backup dancers/singer. Let’s be real y’all have thought of it at least once. Nevertheless, we loved the group and we loved (somewhat) this song.

Kanye West – Love Lockdown

This song is something we should all bow into. This is the time Kanye is still in good light unlike now. Like… seriously. What debacles and issues he’s been getting himself into lately. Kanye, you’ve always been a musical genius. Can you just focus on that, please?!

T.I (ft. Rihanna) – Live your life

I have nothing much to say in this song other than it’s a feel-good song. I think this is the first time we’re seeing Rihanna in her pixie cut and the first kind of revamping we've seen since the Chris Brown incident. Y'all know how that went down.

Usher – Love In This Club

I can’t argue much on this song. I do believe that this is the time Usher is still handling the “biebs” and still it got me wondering how’d he managed to still have a career in music and at the same time, managing and handling that little Bieber before he became all of what he is now.

Britney Spears – Womanizer

Britney has since resurrected herself after her head-shaving phase and we can’t get enough of her whenever she performs. We have to admit that she’s one heck of a performer and this is one of her come back songs that made her who she is now.

Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl

Bisexualism is still a little taboo by 2008 and guys got a little more curious into girls when this song came out as Katy Perry released this song that helped her launched her career. Those skimpy clothes, wigs and candy wonderland themes are the old Katy Perry. Y’all are too young if you didn’t know about those.

Coldplay – Viva La Vida

Y’all are raving to Coldplay but this band has been in the industry for at least a decade. Yep. That’s true. Well… Coldplay has been one of the icons since then and they are mostly known with this song not with what y’all are hearing now. True Coldplay fans know. If you are one, you should know.

Madonna (ft. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland) – 4 Minutes

The legendary Madonna! who would’ve thought she’d still alive by this time? She is everyone and guess what?! She treated all of us a song in collaboration with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. Madonna has been the queen of reinvention and a queen nonetheless. This song got all marching bands, brass and drums transitioned into modern day pop because of it’s iconic and unique instrumentals.

I bet y’all are feeling a OLD now. As in 10 years OLDER than the first time you heard these songs! Well… 2008 has really been a memorable year in music.
